mayergirl, I feel the same exact way. The board is a place I love to be but this week, I just don't enjoy reading it as much. Everyone disagrees about everything, the Felicity/Elizabeth issue is not something we can fix. Elizabeth is blonde, theres nothing people can do about it and I think its time we stop complaining...not trying to sound mean.

There is a negativity flying around, but it's on both sides and there should be people who dislike things. We're all unique with different opinions, so there's going to be disagreements and criticisms and that's seen as negativity.

We are here because we love AG, but, for some people Mattel is doing some things that they don't like, and where are they supposed to complain if not here? I'm upset that Warner Home Video hasn't announced plans for A Batman Beyond Boxset, but I complain about that on cartoon messages boards, because that's the place for it. I also talk about how awesome Justice League is right now, on those very same boards, because they are also the place for it. This seems to be the place to discuss American Girl dolls, good and bad, and that's what people are doing.

Also, there are more posts saying they like E-beth or the new outfits or whatever, but since they are in the majority people don't pay attention to them as much. I know that sounds odd, but it's very true. The differing post will stand out from all the posts that agree.

For example, in the weeks before E-beth premiered, there was like 10+ *seperate topics* with little more than "OMG! I CAN'T WAIT!" and no really did anything except to reply with "I know! Me too!" However, the people that aren't fond of E-beth were often told to quit posting their opinions when they did so in ongoing and relevant posts. It seems to be a bit of a double standard.

So, yeah, in my opinion, there may be negativity, but it's just as valid and necessary as the positive posts.

I think it sort of depends on how you see things. I haven't felt there was more negativity than one would expect amongst a group of mostly women with differing opinions.

We all have our own opinions of everything, it seems, lol, I think, for the most part everyone has been very polite in saying they disliked something, or arguing that they did like something.

I kinda think the Elizabeth issue has been beaten around a bit much, some people here hate the change, others hate the change but like the doll, and others don't really care. Again, I do think most people have been very nice in stating their opinion.

Like Elle said, there's nothing we can do about it now, nor was there ever, really. It seems all that's being had of arguing about Elizabeth is people getting upset, and feeling the need to defend her. I remember this coming up a few weeks ago, and someone (I think shortie421) said that no one seemed to have a problem with everyone praising Elizabeth. I totally agree with this.

It's impossible to say "No more discussing Elizabeth in bad light," or "No more saying how wonderful you think Elizabeth is." It would have to be "No more talking about Elizabeth. Period." No one wants that, right? So, I think the polite way we've been talking about it is the best way there is.

Granted, it seems there are more problems than just Elizabeth, but it is the major issue. We all want to discuss what we think, but that's what the forum is for, isn't it? It would be pretty boring if we all thought the same thing ! There'd be a post and everyone would comment with "I agree," "you're right" to everything, no discussion whatsoever.

I think we should come up with a forum project, like trying to convince AG that they need to recognize the adult collectors in SOME way. That would get everyone working together, and happy.

shuffar, I love your icon. Those are all over Live Journal, too, the Harry Potter/ Power Puff Girl icons, they're so cute.

Editing: Must have been typing at the same time as you, supernoname girl, feel like I said a lot of the same things, lol.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It's true that this is a place for us AG lovers to discuss good and bad about AG. Someone important has to be out there lurking and taking notes and this is probably the best why for them to get feedback. I live by the philosophy (for the most part) that if something is upsetting me on a forum, I just hit the back button and move on. So that's what I do when negativity gets a little too high.

I must say I LOVE the idea of a community project! And the idea someone had about the costume contest, things like that are fun, productive and offer a distraction if you feel you need one.

And I thought I'd throw a shout out to the LiveJournal PotterPuffs for this awesome HP icon. I couldn't find anywhere appropriate to credit her for using it here.

I personally find this board very well-balanced. It's only natural that there are going to be discussions and critiques - if everyone had the same opinion about everything, it would be kind of boring. I like hearing differing points of view. I find the people on here to be positive and upbeat most of the time, and even when they're critiquing I still think people are usually good-natured about it.

Everything can't always be nice and perfect. That's not life. If we weren't ever unhappy, how would we know the difference between happy and unhappy?

Personally...I don't mind it when someone needs to complain or vent. It evens life out....

OMG this is so interesting. I felt these vibes too, but My view is to take the positive and go with it and to respond to neagativity with a positive reponse and kindness.

I am here for the enjoyment of Ag collecting not pettiness. I noticed the post like "outfits to make one cringe" and the tone of Mattel as the bad guy.

People do have a right to express their opinion.

No problem

I just love all the AG things for their quality and craftmanship. The dolls are beautiful. The clothes are top notch and quality made. The books are excellent. Certain outfits may not appeal to me, but I do not hate them. I just do not buy them; not my tatse. I collect AGOT's not that I do not like Historicals; I just prefer AGOT. All the dolls are exquisite, i just have my preferences.

I prefer to look at the good and not the "bad".

I know and felt the vibes that were present by my rating. That will not stop or deter me. I am not here for a rating or to impress anyone. I am here for pure AG fun.

Again, I prefer to look and benefit from the positive which has been finding out about so many tips, ideas, etc. and just sharing with fellow AG lovers. This message board is a great place. One can always get something positive from a negative situation, not that we have one here; we don't. I just do not dwell on it and enjoy talking with you and loving my AG's.

OK, I'm on the "soap box" again, huh.

In closing, I love this message board for better or for worse. It's a great place to be

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Precisely. Just because some aren't fond of a blond Elizabeth doesn't mean those who own her are wrong for liking her. They're opinions about a DOLL, people. No need to take them personally.

Someone important has to be out there lurking and taking notes and this is probably the best why for them to get feedback.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm sure everyone knows that employees from AG lurk here on occasion. That just makes this forum a better place to air your opinions...be they good or bad.
